Selection Process
Selection Process Selection of a delegate or alternate for the U.S. Senate Youth Program involves four steps:

Step One:  The applicant must be selected to and attend Buckeye Boys State, Buckeye Girls State or the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program. The sponsoring organizations for these programs will provide applications to interested participants.

Step Two: The U.S. Senate Youth Program application form must be completed in its entirety and submitted at one of the programs identified in Step One.

Step Three: The American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program selection committees review the submitted applications for their respective programs. Semifinalists are selected and their applications are submitted to the Ohio Department of Education.

Step Four: The Department reviews the nominees’ applications and verifies the information with the home schools. If eligible, semi-finalists take the United States Senate Youth Program Qualifying Test in the fall of 2020. The Department selects the students based on the qualifying test provided by the Hearst Foundations.
